Afternoon Tea and Talent Contest
Once again we had a brilliant end of year celebration organised for us by the Middle Street PTA. We really appreciate everything they do for the school and how hard they work to put on such brilliant events for us all. It is a small team who organise and prepare everything so I would like to say on behalf of the children, staff and parents an enormous, gigantic thank you! Well done to all the children who entered the talent contest. What shining bright stars you all are. Thank you to the adult choir for their performance. They seem to be popping up all over the place! You can listen to them again on August 1st at a festival to be held on the Level. Finally a big old thank you and hug for Mark Williams who once again compeered the talent show for us.

Double Yellow Lines and Road Safety
Unfortunately I have received a complaint from the Parking Contract Officer at the council. Apparently Civil Enforcement Officers were abused by parents outside of school when recently asked to move off the double yellow lines. I will be writing to apologise. We should abide by the road safety laws particularly around our school as dangerous parking puts our children at risk. Apparently the officers stated that they were there at the request of the school. This request was made many months ago because of the complaints received from local businesses. As far as I am concerned they are simply doing their job and should be allowed to do so without being abused and as a result damaging the reputation of the school.

Clothes and Shoes for School
Finally the summer months are upon us, I think. So here’s a reminder to all about children’s summer clothing and footwear. Girls and boys should wear tops which keep their shoulders covered to avoid sunburn at playtimes and other outdoor activities. Hats are good idea for all to wear outside. Children should avoid wearing flip flops of any style as accidents happen when children run around. We have also had accidents where children’s feet slip and get caught under doors. Children can bring suntan lotion in but it is their responsibility to put it on. Lotion should be kept in their drawers or can be handed into the office in a named container.

Children’s Festival Parade
Luckily the weather stayed fine for the children’s parade on Saturday. I thought we all looked fantastic representing the Polar region. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in. Your costumes were as always fabulous! A special thank you to the small group of parents and staff who built the main structure and organised workshops. Your help is very much appreciated. The Samba band was great and it was lovely to have some ex-pupils joining in with the band. Next year we will be having a year off from the parade, although I believe Mr Brazil will still be entering our Samba band, so Middle Street will still be represented.

The team players were Hamish (team captain), Jake, Lottie Katty, Christian, Ateya, Denise, Jacob and Max.
